Join artist Megan Heeres for the launch of her exhibit book The More We Get Together.
Working in vats of pulp in the studio ground me and my practice. The paper-making process transforms water into a surface that one can hold onto. Seemingly invisible cellulose fibers grasp onto the water molecules, they make a fine pulp, and then derive the thinnest veneer of a sheet. Transforming nothingness into something.
Paper-making is at the core of my artistic practice. I return to it time and time again. It satisfies my ongoing curiosities around materiality, entropy, and interaction. Paper can be delicate and demure, yet at the same time it can be incredibly strong and architectural. I respect this mutability and make a new discovery each time I return back to making it.

The More We Get Together is a limited edition gallery publication. Only 100 copies are being produced. The 36-page book was designed with the artist and each book comes with a unique piece of hand-made paper which was part of Heeres’ original project at the gallery. Offering several professional color images of Megan Heeres’ original exhibit at the gallery, and personal shots of Heeres’ Invasive Plant Project throughout Detroit, the book also includes writings by the artist, as well as essays by Vince Carducci and Sarah Rose Sharp.
The book signing and gallery party will take place in our Gallery 2 space (the smaller gallery), and a few paper works works by Megan Heeres will be on display for the event. The exhibit will also be on view on Saturday, August 15.
