I was excited to receive an advance look at the cover for Lynn Crawford’s forthcoming novel, Shankus & Kitto, from Black Square Editions off Hyperallergic Press. I guess I got an inside look because I furnished a blurb that ended up making the back cover (why Lynn asked for my endorsement is still unclear to me, since I look up to her so much)–but I also got permission to share a sneak peek with you.
As for the book, as I said:
Shankus & Kitto successfully eschews an omnipotent narrative voice in favor of a first-person cast of characters with enviable self-awareness and acceptance of their myriad and all-to-human flaws. Much like the meticulous dioramas built by one of the central characters, there is a sense of observing Crawford in her own process of “constructing imagined worlds,” out of those most elemental ingredients: passion, family, and of course, food.
I think we can all agree this is one knockout of a cover. Can’t wait for it to hit the stands!
